I was able to make it to the second half of the Live8 concert last night. It was all right, but nothing to write home about; the other locales had the better acts performing. I’d like to hope that it was successful in raising awareness about poverty and AIDs in Africa at least to some degree.

I’m really not a fan of Pet Shop Boys, the headliners for the Moscow show, but I do dig Bi-2 and Delfin. They were quite worth seeing. I would have liked to catch the Red Elvises too, but it seems that I missed their short set. Oh well.

Here are a few shots from the night. I’ll have the rest up on Flickr sometime tomorrow.

At least you could see the stage…

Here in Philly, it was too low on the steps to the art museum, so it ended up right behind an enormous statue. Couldn’t even see it from 200 feet away.

We did have Def Leppard though :)

Yeah. It was easy to get up near the front of the stage. There was far less people than I expected. From the clips they showed from the other Live8 cities, it seems that they all had a better turnout.

Of course, that’s probably because it rained a little bit and they didn’t announce or start advertising the concert until about 5 days before the show.

I was hoping you would have Red Elvises photos up here.

I don’t know if too many people in Red Square for the actual event would have seen the Red Elvises… Oleg, the bass balalaika player said their appearance would be “pre-recorded”. I think they had another paying gig that night, most likely at the Hard Rock. So they would have taped their performance in the afternoon, when most artists would have had their soundchecks.

I think.

I listened to Live 8 broadcasts all day while on vacation and we watched some of it via Canadian sat. I was hoping that someone would take photos in Moscow. Thanks!

Man, I love the Red Elvises. They came to the Club Downunder at FSU a little while ago, and I was thoroughly amused by a line in one of their songs, sung in English with a heavy Russian accent:

Floating in space
Looking through telescope…
