How Agatha Christie became known as a masterful writer of mystery and suspense is beyond me. Granted, I am basing my opinion on the only book of hers which I have read, but still, it was so horrible that I feel justified in my criticism.

I painfully finished the short crime novel Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? on the flight from Moscow to JFK. Upoun completion, I decided that I would rather have the extra 24 cubic inches in my bag than take the book with me, so I stuffed it into the airliner’s seat pocket right next to the vomit bag and the catalog of things that people don’t need but think they do. It fit along well with those items.

The novel suffered from weak dialogue, overly typical characters, extremely poor use of foreshadowing, and uncreatively predictable plot twists. Do yourself a favor and never read this book.

Are all of Christie’s books so bad?
